Are Pix-Star frames better than Nixplay digital frames in 2021?

Pix-Star and Nixplay digital frames are among the best on the 2021 market – but that doesn’t mean they’re equal. Missing features, subscription fees, hidden costs, and lacking essentials separates these two premium digital frames.

Pix-Star’s digital frames are arguably the most feature-packed on the market at the moment. With extensive Wi-Fi & cloud functionality, Pix-Star’s frames offer more than Nixplay even with the Nixplay Plus annual subscription plan. You can remotely control & manage up to 25 connected Pix-Star frames from anywhere in the world. It’s all done effortlessly through the web dashboard at pix-star.com.

The web dashboard is where a lot of the Pix-Star magic happens. Here you can create multi-frame control groups with up to 25 connected Pix-Star frames. By contrast, Nixplay only lets you control up to 10 – but you have to pay for the annual subscription plan to unlock this feature. Pix-Star web dashboard can also be used to link photos from your favorite social media and photo-sharing sites. Read here to learn how to view your Facebook photos on your Pix-Star digital frame.

Pix-Star web albums can be set to automatically update when new photos are added to any of the linked albums. You can link several albums from the same profile to multiple frames. You can also link multiple accounts from the same platforms to several frames. It’s an excellent way to automate photo sharing and offers a unique feature that isn’t available with Nixplay.

Nixplay digital frames let you view 15-second video clips. This can be extended to up to 1-minute clips if you pay for the Nixplay Plus subscription. On the other hand, Pix-Star lets you play up to 2-minute video clips right off the bat – no extra costs or hidden fees.

Perhaps Pix-Star’s most unique offering is its free-for-life cloud storage. This is a feature that’s not commonly seen among top digital photo frames. You can automatically backup and manage all this cloud storage via the web interface. Nixplay offers up to 50GB of cloud storage for connected frames, but you’ll need to pay for the Nixplay Plus subscription plan.

In summary, Pix-Star’s frames offer better value for money, even when they’re compared to a Nixplay frame with a premium subscription plan. Their versatility for both families and individual users is excellent and one of the best on the market.

Do Nixplay digital frames charge extra fees?

As hinted at above, Nixplay digital frames charge an optional premium annual subscription plan called Nixplay Plus. This plan unlocks features like cloud storage, video support, multi-frame control groups, and the ability to create playlists. All of these features are found on other premium frames like the Pix-Star without any extra fees or hidden costs.

When you consider the cost of this premium subscription and factor it into the total cost of the frame over its effective lifespan, it’s tough to justify its worth. When other premium digital photo frames offer so much more for so much less, you don’t get great value.

To add to this, Nixplay digital frames aren’t very versatile or capable without the premium subscription plan. If you’re going to get one of these frames, you need to pay for the additional costs – especially if you’re in a family. Unfortunately for Nixplay, frames like the Pix-Star are natively more suitable for families and elderly users.

The ability to remotely control up to 25 connected frames and automate photo sharing through web albums from social media and photo-sharing platforms offers a tough-to-beat level of performance. Very few premium frames can do what the Pix-Star does – especially considering there are no extra fees or hidden costs.

Can Nixplay digital frames show photos from Facebook and other social media platforms?

This feature is known as web album support. It’s limited to just a handful of the best digital photo frames like the Pix-Star. Nixplay’s web app isn’t very intuitive and has several performance issues. While Nixplay can link photos from specific photo-sharing sites like Google Photos, it’s not a primary feature. Its usability to harmed by the wonky and hard-to-use web portal as this is where all the linking is done.

It’s worth noting that for these features to work effectively on the Nixplay frame, you need to have an active Nixplay Plus subscription plan. If you want to link photos from social media, photo-sharing, and online storage platforms, Pix-Star’s frames offer arguably the best feature set. You can automate much of the process and it’s all easily managed through the intuitive Pix-Star web dashboard.

Do Nixplay digital frames offer cloud storage and remote control?

Nixplay digital frames don’t initially have cloud storage. You need to subscribe to the Nixplay Plus premium plan to unlock cloud storage and related features. This is in quite stark contrast to what you’d get with Pix-Star’s frames. Free-for-life cloud storage is included and you get full use of the mobile app and web interface. This isn’t quite the case with Nixplay.

Remote control in this case refers to controlling the digital frames from anywhere in the world to start slideshows, change settings, manage local & cloud storage, etc. Frames like the Pix-Star offer extensive remote-control functionality – though this isn’t a primary feature of Nixplay’s digital frames. You have limited control over the frame via the mobile app (acts as more of a handheld remote) and otherwise need to use the provided handheld remote control.

Is the Nixplay digital frame’s mobile app any good?

Nixplay’s mobile app isn’t the most intuitive, but it gets the job done. You’ll need to pay for the premium subscription to get full use of the mobile app and cloud backups. That being said, the app isn’t well suited to elderly users and the navigation can be a bit tricky. Remotely controlling the frame can be slow and confusing via the mobile app. Web interfaces like you get with the Pix-Star tend to be far more capable and intuitive than mobile-based remote-control features.
