Are Pix-Star or Dragon Touch digital photo frames better for families?

Should you choose Pix-Star or Dragon Touch digital photo frames for a family or home? While both of these frames have features that cater to families and homes (mobile app, sending photos wirelessly, versatile slideshows, etc.), Pix-Star’s frames easily take the top spot.

The Pix-Star Snap mobile app is a lot less buggy and a whole lot more versatile. You can send up to 250 photos to several Pix-Star frames at the same time. You’re able to send 2-minute video clips & audio messages via the app too. It’s easy to use and doesn’t require account creation – so everyone in the family can use it.

Pix-Star’s web dashboard lets you import photo albums from social media sites like Facebook & Instagram, photo-sharing sites like Google Photos & Flickr, and online storage platforms like Google Drive & Dropbox. Almost a dozen different platforms are supported. Once a web album has been linked, it can be set to stay automatically updated. When you add new photos to the linked photo album, they’ll be synced and saved to all linked Pix-Star frames.

Pix-Star’s frames are priced very similarly to Dragon Touch digital frames, yet they offer quite a lot more in terms of its immersive viewing experience (thanks to the 4:3 aspect ratio), the Pix-Star Snap mobile app, interconnectedness (remotely control up to 25 connected Pix-Star frames from anywhere in the world), and massive feature set. Pix-Star’s frames are well-equipped to cater to the needs of the modern home & family – and look great at the same time.

Do Pix-Star and Dragon Touch digital frames play videos?

Both Pix-Star and Dragon Touch digital photo frames can play short video clips – but there’s more to it than that. Pix-Star’s frames support video clips with a maximum length of 2-minutes; whereas Dragon Touch’s frames only let you play 30-second video clips. While 2-minutes might not seem like much, it’s more than you get with almost any other digital frame on the market – especially at this price point.

Pix-Star’s frames take it a step further, letting you play videos in slideshows. Videos can be included and can even be set to play muted (or with their accompanying audio). This feature is perfect for creating special personalized slideshows to match the situation or occasion. Videos can also be moved into separate folders and unique slideshows can then be created from these containing folders (of just videos).

While digital frames aren’t known for their video & audio support, Pix-Star’s frames do a decent job. It’s worth noting that these frames aren’t designed to replace your laptop, phone, or tablet. They aren’t made to stream movies, play YouTube videos, etc. Pix-Star’s frames are on the more versatile of the market, with many top digital frames requiring additional subscription fees to play videos – and frames like the Aura frame not offering video or audio support at all.

Are Pix-Star or Dragon Touch frames better for grandparents?

Pix-Star’s digital photo frames are better for grandparents than Dragon Touch frames. Pix-Star is one of the few premium digital frames that cater specifically to elderly users and families at the same time. This is seen through their premium features like extensive remote-control features, web album support (importing photos from social media), access to both a mobile app & web interface, video & audio playback, versatile slideshows, adjustable brightness settings, and more.

Dragon Touch digital photo frames are also a lot less easy to use than Pix-Star’s frames. Importing photos directly from your computer is tricky and involves using an FTP client, finding your computer’s IP address, and more. This is usually far beyond what the average elderly user is confident in handling.

Can Pix-Star and Dragon Touch digital frames be remotely controlled?

Pix-Star’s frames offer extensive remote-control functionality; whereas Dragon Touch only offers a couple of remotely adjustable features. Pix-Star arguably offers the most robust and comprehensive remote-control feature on the market, letting you adjust your frame’s settings, start & manage slideshows, manage storage (local & cloud), update firmware, change slideshow sources, and much more.

Dragon Touch’s frames only let you remotely set the auto-of/off feature to choose when the frame’s display is powered on. This is quite a letdown as you can’t start slideshows remotely or manage the frame’s files/folders. It makes the Dragon Touch frame a far less suitable choice for elderly users – especially when you consider all that Pix-Star’s frames can do for the same price.

If you want a frame for the family that you can control almost to the same level as you can in person, Pix-Star’s frames are the better choice. You have almost total control over who sees what, when they see it, and how it appears on the display. Pix-Star’s frames are some of the best frames for the modern home & family and offer excellent value for money!

Do Pix-Star or Dragon Touch frames better for viewing photos from Facebook?

Pix-Star’s digital frames offer far better support for sending and importing photos from social media & photo-sharing sites like Facebook. You can link your Facebook account (and several other accounts) to your Pix-Star frames. Once linked, you can select which photo albums you want to sync to each of your Pix-Star frames. These albums will then be imported and saved to the Pix-Star frame’s internal storage (so that they’re available offline).

Linked web albums can even be set to automatically update when you add new photos to the linked Facebook photo album. They’ll be automatically synced to all linked frames, which in turn automates much of the photo-sharing process. To share photos with every frame in the family, simply link an album on your Facebook account to all of the frames, set it to automatically update, and enjoy effortless sharing.

By stark contrast, Dragon Touch digital photo frames don’t offer any web album or social media functionality. The only way to load photos to their frames from social media is to save them to your phone then upload them to your frame via the mobile app. Pix-Star also lets you load photos in this manner.

With Pix-Star’s frames, you can link to almost a dozen different social media, photo-sharing, and online storage platforms. Supported platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive, Google Photos, Dropbox, Flickr, and more. If you use social media or photo-sharing sites, Pix-Star is the far more versatile choice – especially when you consider that their price is almost identical to Dragon Touch’s digital photo frames.
