Should I buy Target digital picture frames?

Target digital picture frames don’t come in the widest selection – you’re limited to choosing from just a handful of options. Most of these digital frames are cheaper to lower mid-range frames and can’t cater effectively to the requirements of modern homes & families. As for premium frames, Target only offers the Aura frames – which are known to be some of the most expensive digital frames on today’s market.

In the lower to mid-range, you can get Polaroid digital frames. They’re not very versatile and most of them can’t connect to Wi-Fi. This means they’re not suitable choices for families or elderly users – and they pale in comparison to premium frames like the Pix-Star.

We usually advise you to avoid shopping for digital picture frames on platforms that don’t offer a diverse product selection. This is especially true if you’re new to the digital frame market and don’t know what you’re looking for yet. You’re less likely to get good value for money or a digital frame that lasts for a long time.

A wide product selection is arguably most important in the premium range. Many of the frames may seem very similar on paper but can be drastically different in the real world. This is why verified reviews and in-depth product descriptions come into play. Target digital picture frames don’t have a lot of reviews as most people prefer to shop on Amazon. This means you don’t get hundreds of Q&As and reviews, making you less likely to find the perfect frame for your home & family.

While the Aura frames aren’t bad options – there’s a lot more you need to see before making your decision. When you pit them against other top frames like the Pix-Star, you quickly see that they’re not the best frames on the market. They have excellent display resolution, which is sadly brought down by the 16:9 aspect ratio – meaning most of the photos taken on smartphones won’t match the screen. They’re not easy to set up and aren’t very elderly-friendly. You can’t easily create multi-frame control groups and the is no remote-control functionality.

Can I get Pix-Star digital picture frames at Target?

Pix-Star’s digital picture frames are not available at Target. In the premium digital picture frame range, only the Aura frames are found on Target. Frames like the Pix-Star, Skylight and Nixplay frames are not available. This is why we recommend you shop for digital picture frames at Amazon instead of at Target – especially if you’re on the market for a premium digital frame.

Pix-Star’s frames are widely regarded as one of the most versatile premium frames on the market. They pack in tons of practical features into an easy-to-use interface that’s designed to cater to families & elderly users. You get a mobile app (Pix-Star Snap) and web interface that lets you send pictures to any connected Pix-Star frame from anywhere in the world.

Pix-Star’s frames can play videos in slideshows and audio files/radio stations over them. Videos & audio messages can be sent to the frame via USB/SD card or through the Pix-Star Snap mobile app. Each Pix-Star frame gets free-for-life cloud storage and can be added to multi-frame control groups.

Through the web dashboard, you can remotely change the frame’s settings, start slideshows, manage local & cloud storage, update the firmware, and much more – from anywhere in the world. These multi-frame control groups are perfect for families & elderly users as you can ensure they get all the latest photos (and view them on the display) without having to lift a finger.

Should I buy Target digital picture frames or Amazon digital frames?

Amazon’s digital picture frame selection is many times larger than Target’s digital picture frame range. This is true for all budget ranges and frame sizes – but none more so than the premium range. You can buy almost any premium on the market and have access to potentially hundreds of Q&As and reviews for each frame.

Amazon’s digital picture frames have great in-depth product information. You can filter through reviews to show only verified purchases to make sure you’re getting real information. Reading through the different star-rated reviews can give you a very accurate image of how the frame performs in the real world. You can learn about their quality control issues, longevity, and the effectiveness of the frame’s features.

While you can get some of this information with Target digital picture frames, it’s not nearly as in-depth or numerous as with Amazon. This is because far more people are shopping for digital frames on Amazon and the user base is bigger. You’re more likely to get great value for money with Amazon digital picture frames – especially if you’re shopping in the premium range (we usually advise you to avoid cheaper frames due to their poor build quality and lack of longevity).

Can Target digital picture frames play videos?

Video & audio playback is a feature that’s usually only found among the top digital picture frames on the market. The only premium frame brand at Target is the Aura frame – and they cannot play videos. Aura frames are designed to be ambient displays and as such, they don’t support video playback and don’t have any audio output. You can play live photos though, but getting them onto the frame can be tricky (plus the frame’s 16:9 aspect ratio doesn’t help immersion).

If you want a digital picture frame that can play videos, Pix-Star’s frames are an excellent choice. You can send video clips to the frame via the mobile app or by USB/SD card and can include these clips in slideshows. Pix-Star’s frames let you play 2-minute video clips (more than almost all other frames on the market) and don’t charge any extra recurring or hidden fees to unlock video playback or use of the mobile app (unlike frames like the Skylight or Nixplay).

Can Target digital picture frames be returned?

Target digital picture frames can be returned as Target (and all major online shopping platforms) have extensive return policies. Be sure to check the return/refund policy for each frame and don’t solely rely on the general policy. Keep the original packaging and ensure all the original accessories are in their original condition in case you need to return the frame.
