Are the digital frames Walmart sells worth the money?

The range of digital frames Walmart sells focuses mainly on the budget to mid-range. This is where most of their frames fall into, with just a handful of premium frames for the upper end of the market. This is quite a start contrast when compared to other platforms like Amazon that have a massive digital frame catalog for all budgets and needs.

For the mid-range digital frames at Walmart, you can choose from a small selection of FeelCare, Stoneway, and Sylvania digital frames. Most of these frames have 10-inch, 16:9 displays, and a relatively limited feature set. They don’t quite compete with premium frames when it comes to sending/receiving photos, having access to mobile apps or web interfaces, and so on.

While mid-range digital frames aren’t technically bad choices, we seldom recommend choosing them over premium frames. For a small price increase, you could get a massive boost in versatility, functionality, and features. For example, Pix-Star’s digital frames are premium frames that let you send & receive photos from anywhere in the world. You can use email, social media, mobile apps, the web dashboard, and much more. By comparison, most mid-range digital frames at Walmart can only receive photos by USB/SD card – with some offering ways to import photos wirelessly (but not with nearly as much versatility as premium frames like the Pix-Star).

As for cheap digital frames, there are quite a few digital frames at Walmart. The main issue with cheap digital frames is their lack of features & poor longevity. This end of the market isn’t known for its build quality – which is another reason we don’t recommend buying cheap digital frames from Walmart. They usually don’t have Wi-Fi connectivity or cloud functionality. The only way to send photos to the frame is by USB/SD card and the display is usually around 7-inches.

Finally, for the premium range, you can choose from a handful of Nix & Nixplay digital frames. Nix frames are the cheaper mid-range models, while Nixplay’s frames are premium. The issue with shopping for premium frames at Walmart is the lack of selection. You might look at the Nixplay frames and think they’re the best out there – but they’re far from it.

Nixplay’s digital frames require you to pay for an additional subscription fee (optional & paid annually) to unlock features like 1-minute video clip support, expanding cloud storage, connecting & linking up to 10 Nixplay frames, and the ability to create custom playlists. All of these features are offered for free on the Pix-Star digital frame (and other premium frames) free & to a greater extent. Without this subscription plan, Nixplay’s frames are no different from a mid-range digital frame (just a whole lot more expensive).

Are the Pix-Star digital frames sold at Walmart?

Pix-Star’s 10-inch and 15-inch digital frames aren’t sold on Walmart – along with almost all other premium digital frames. Pix-Star’s digital frames are some of the most versatile and capable frames on today’s market. They’re known for their robust feature set, elderly & family-friendliness, and versatile real-world performance.

Pix-Star was the brand that came up with the idea of giving a digital frame a unique email address to both identify the frame and let it receive photos wirelessly. Today, you can send photos to Pix-Star’s frames from anywhere in the world. You can send up to 250 photos to multiple frames at the same time with the Pix-Star Snap mobile app (and send videos & audio messages).

Pix-Star’s web dashboard lets you link photos directly from your computer to connected Pix-Star frames. You can also select & link photos from social media & photo-sharing sites to several connected Pix-Star frames at the same time. Pix-Star’s multi-frame feature lets you link, connect, and control up to 25 Pix-Star frames from a single user account. You can adjust their settings, start & manage slideshows, make changes to both local & cloud storage, and much more.

Pix-Star’s digital frames use 4:3 aspect ratios (unlike the more common 16:9 displays) meaning that photos sent from smartphones will appear using the full display. You don’t need to worry about cropping, distorted, or boxed photos (a common issue with 16:9 displays). Pix-Star’s digital frames don’t charge any extra recurring or hidden fees and offer a robust & full feature set. This outdoes what is offered by premium digital frames at Walmart like the Nixplay.

Should I shop for digital frames at Walmart or Amazon?

Amazon has a much broader digital frame selection than Walmart. You can choose from hundreds of different digital frames. The more important consideration here is the information available. While Walmart has a relatively large product selection, the information isn’t as in-depth as Amazon. On Amazon, you can read through hundreds and even thousands of reviews from verified buyers.

You can read through tons of Q&As about the frame’s features, functions, and quality. When combined with in-depth product descriptions, you can get a very accurate idea of how these digital frames perform in the real world. While there is always a little bit of risk involved when shopping for tech & devices online, this information goes a long way to reduce said risk – and helps you to get the best value for your money.

Can digital frames from Walmart be returned?

Like all other major online shopping platforms, Walmart has a return & refund policy. Don’t assume that the general returns policy will apply to all product categories. Make sure to check the return & refund policy of the specific digital frames you’re interested in as they may have slight differences. It’s also good practice to keep all the original packaging & accessories for the digital frame you buy – in case you need to return it or get a refund.

Does Walmart sell premium digital frames?

Walmart sells a handful of premium digital frames. The most commonly found is the Nixplay digital frame. Check out our review & comparison for Nixplay digital frames to see what kind of value they offer. Dragontouch digital frames are also offered at Walmart. These digital frames are very new to the market and haven’t quite found their footing yet – so they’re a bit of a risky choice until proven otherwise. Aside from these two brands, Walmart doesn’t offer many other premium digital frames.
